Novo Nordisk is supporting the UN Resolution on diabetes

Today some 246 million people have diabetes; by 2025 this number is expected to jump to 380 million. This doesn’t just put healthcare infrastructure and local economy at risk: society at every level will have to bear this burden. That’s why we need to unite everyone now.

People in a position to create change are obliged to act on behalf of people with diabetes and those at risk. Only by joining forces and acting together will we defeat the pandemic that is threatening to crush healthcare systems around the world.

Through political will and priority we need to generate change at a government level. Industry, diabetes communities, healthcare professionals and others must find practical solutions to bring about real and needed change.

To this end, Novo Nordisk will continue to focus on treatment and prevention. This means we are dedicating our resources to people with diabetes, as well as those at risk of diabetes.

Currently, there is no cure for diabetes, but many type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented through changes in diet and increased physical activity. Action is urgently needed to prevent our children from bearing the future burdens of diabetes. That’s where the UN Resolution on diabetes comes in: it must raise awareness and get diabetes on the political agenda, improve diabetes care for many and encourage concerted actions to prevent diabetes and its complications. We must now work to make sure that the full weight of the UN Resolution is realised. Because having a UN Resolution is not enough, we owe it to the diabetes community at large to make sure it is implemented.

Novo Nordisk will continue to take an active leadership in the IDF-led ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign by:

  • Establishing high-level groups of experts to facilitate new solutions for change and drive better health outcomes for people with diabetes;
  • Pursuing its efforts to raise awareness via the Changing Diabetes Bus world tour;
  • Changing policies through partnerships with authorities to establish national diabetes programmes aimed at detecting, preventing and improving care of diabetes;
  • Engaging young people in the effort to build a better future for people with diabetes.

Take action now by signing the online petition. Help us to put diabetes on the agenda of each and every United Nations Member State, and to implement the United Nations Resolution on diabetes.
